Sims threw for 2,797 yards and 33 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2007. He led the Tigers to a Group AAA, Division 6 state title as a junior, amassed 3,167 yards passing with 38 touchdowns to only four interceptions in the process.

Head coach Rich Morgan: "He is very intelligent about the game of football. He understands coverages and pass protections. He calls his own pass protections. He is very intelligent. Physically speaking, I think his arm strength is number one. I've never played against a player or coached a player with his arm strength."
