It didn't seem likely, but the Hokies got it done. Needing to win two games in one day at #4 Michigan, Virginia Tech did just that. The first game was a 1-0 nail biter, but the second was a 6-1 blowout, and the Hokies are going to the Women's College World Series for the first time in school history.

Angela Tincher pitches a complete game almost every time she takes the mound, and twice on Sundays. She went the distance twice today against the Wolverines. After striking out 15 batters in Game Two of the series, she allowed just one run and struck out seven more in Game Three.

Virginia Tech had a big third inning, plating four runs on two base hits, mixed in with some timely walks and a Michigan error. That is more than a pitcher like Tincher needs, but that didn't stop the Hokies from adding some insurance.

In the fourth inning, Whitney Davis hit a home run to right center field putting the Hokies up 5-0. It was the first home run of the walk-on's career. In the fifth inning, Tech added another run with two two-out hits.

The Hokies generally struggle hitting the ball, batting just .245 as a team, but they had their timing down in Game Three. Even some of the outs Michigan recorded came on hard hit balls, and Misty Hall just missed a grand slam in the third inning. She was so dialed in that she was well out in front of the pitch, driving it foul outside the left field pole.

Virginia native Dorian Shaw hit a solo home run for Michigan in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-1, but the Wolverines had no realistic hope of coming back with such a big deficit against Tincher.

The Hokies now advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. They are just one of eight teams who will be playing for the National Championship. Tech will take on either Texas A&M or Stanford, most likely the Aggies, on May 29 on ESPN.
