After winning a 12-inning marathon Friday, the Hokie softball team didn't have anything left and got blasted twice Saturday in NCAA action. 6th-ranked Tennessee throttled Tech 9-1 in five innings, knocking the Hokies into the loser's bracket, where they were eliminated by 19th-ranked Louisville 10-1. The Hokies finish the season 39-21.

Tennessee jumped on Tech early, tagging Angela Tincher for four runs in the first inning. Tincher gave up two walks and hit a batter to load the bases, then surrendered a full count grand slam home run to UT's Katherine Cord. The Hokies countered with a home run in the second to make it 4-1, but then Tennessee scored again in the third to chase Tincher. Tincher was replaced by Katie Maynard, who hit another batter to make it 6-1, before getting out of the inning.

The Vols added three more runs later, and the game, which included a rain delay, was called after the fifth inning. Tincher (26-9) threw just 2.2 innings after going 12 innings Friday.

In the nightcap, the Hokies were battered by the same Louisville Cardinal team they shut out 1-0 on Friday. Maynard started the second game and gave up six runs in the bottom of the second to fall behind 7-1. Tincher then took over, but was only able to go 1.1 innings, giving up two more runs. Karie Morrison also pitched an inning, giving up a run. Louisville scored three in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-1, and the game was called after four and a half innings.
