Top Junior Harold Off To Good Start

Rebounding from a knee injury that sidelined him for 8 1/2 games of his sophomore season, Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) junior defensive end/wide receiver Eli Harold is more focused and determined than ever on the gridiron. He figures to be an important piece of a Dolphins squad that is expected to contend for a state championship this season.

L.C. Bird Notes: Junior LB One To Watch

L.C. Bird's (Chesterfield, VA) defense shined in its first preseason competition of the 2010 season, stifling both the Westfield and Dinwiddie offenses. There are many standouts on the Skyhawks defense, but flying around from the middle linebacker position was Deontae "Deon" Clarke, who appeared to be the vocal leader of the group.

Preseason Report: OL Jake Goins

Jake Goins committed to Virginia Tech over Virginia just three weeks ago and he is pleased to no longer have to worry about recruiting. "I'm glad it's over," he said. "I feel like I made the right decision." The 6-5, 285-pound right offensive tackle has turned his full attention towards Manchester's (Midlothian, VA) 2010 season, which will be his last on the high school level.

Hargrave Report: Taylor Focused On One Goal

There is no question of where Justin Taylor wants to be come January. A standout defensive end prospect out of South Stanly High School (Norwood, N.C.), Taylor signed a letter of intent with Virginia Tech this past February. He is currently enrolled as a postgraduate at Hargrave Military Academy, determined to work to accomplish his primary goal of being at Virginia Tech by the start of next year.

Marshall Talks Defense, Early Enrollment

"It always helps to get quality reps against quality foes." - Dinwiddie (VA) defensive end Corey Marshall. The 6-1, 255-pound Marshall, ranked #5 in TSL's Preseason In-State Top 40, and his Generals teammates have faced some quality competition this preseason in scrimmages against Ocean Lakes and Bethel. Dinwiddie's star reflected on the team's performance as well as his own thus far in preseason practice.

Nease H.S. Notes: Roth Looking Dominant

Matt Roth totaled 27 tackles for loss and 13 sacks last season, which was his first year at Nease High School (Ponte Vedra, FL). One year later, the 6-4 standout defensive end, 30 pounds heavier at 225 pounds, enters his senior season with high expectations.

Commitment Reports: Vandyke, Aromire

South County (Lorton, VA) has one of its best players back in the fold. 6-3, 196-pound senior Ronny Vandyke will start at Whip linebacker and wide receiver for the Stallions after missing the entire 2009 season due to a shoulder injury. The shoulder, which required surgery, is holding up well so far in preseason practice.

NC Junior A Top RB Prospect

Millbrook (Raleigh, N.C.) star Keith Marshall enters the 2010 season as one of the top juniors in the Tar Heel state. The 5-11, 180-pound running back expects to receive 10 written scholarship offers - including one from Virginia Tech - at the beginning of his junior year, the time when he can begin receiving official offer letters.

VT's Total Package Impressed Farrow

Cornerback prospect James Farrow admitted that Virginia Tech was "kind of my unofficial leader" prior to last Thursday's visit to Blacksburg. Still, the 6-0, 175-pound Minnetonka (MN) standout didn't plan on verbally committing to the Hokies while on the trip. That's just what happened, though, and Virginia Tech scored commitment 11 in its 2011 recruiting class.

Preseason Report: TE Christian Reeves
August 12, 2010
Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, GA) head coach Jonathan Gess gave Christian Reeves a chance to play offense last season, starting the 6-3, 220-pound standout at wide receiver. The move paid off with Reeves hauling in 26 receptions for 584 yards and four scores. If this past offseason is any indication, however, last season may have only been a glimpse into the potential the Virginia Tech-bound rising senior has on the offensive side of the ball.

Goins Is A Hokie

Jake Goins will spend his college days in Blacksburg. The 6-5, 285-pound offensive lineman committed to Frank Beamer and company on Tuesday, giving the Hokies and in-state recruiting victory over the University of Virginia. Goins, a rising senior out of Manchester High School (Midlothian, VA), was also offered by Clemson, Duke, Maryland and Richmond.

In what will be the first of four college visits this week, Gilman (Baltimore, MD) athlete Darius Jennings will trek to Penn State today. He'll visit Pitt and West Virginia on Wednesday before flying to Boston College on Friday. Following these trips, the 5-11, 175-pound rising senior standout hopes to narrow his long list of schools to a final 10.

Cave Spring Star Discusses Decision

Michael Cole announced tonight that Virginia Tech is where he will spend his college career. The decision ultimately came down to Tech and Penn State with the Hokies emerging as the pick one week ago. "I let the Virginia Tech coaches know about a week ago," said Cole, a 6-2, 200-pound linebacker/safety prospect out of Cave Spring High School (Roanoke, VA). "I called Coach Stinespring and he was very excited."

Goins Talks Visits, Impending Decision

Manchester (Midlothian, VA) offensive lineman Jake Goins did indeed visit Virginia Tech and Virginia this week. All that remains now is for the 6-5, 285-pound rising senior standout to make a commitment. Goins, a first-team all-Dominion district selection last season as a junior, is considering a final three of Maryland, UVa and Tech.
