Virginia Tech and Cincinnati to Meet at FedEx Field in 2012

Virginia Tech's 2012 football game with the Cincinnati Bearcats will be played in FedEx Field. It will mark the third time the Hokies have played in FedEx. They played #1 USC there back in 2004, and will also play Boise State in 2010. Also: Women's Soccer advances to Sweet 16, kickoff times announced for NC State and UVA games.

Hokies Sign Eddie and Garland for Men's Basketball

The Fall early signing period opened today, and it was a good day for the Virginia Tech men's basketball program, as two recruits in the 2010 class faxed their letters of intent to Seth Greenberg. Hokie Men's Basketball Picked 8th in ACC

Virginia Tech has been picked 8th in the annual ACC men's basketball preseason media poll, and Tech guard Malcolm Delaney has been selected as a first-team All-ACC preseason pick. Duke and North Carolina share the #1 spot in the media poll, with the Blue Devils getting 25 first-place votes to 20 for the Tar Heels.

Basketball Season Begins with "Late Night with the Hokies"

Hokie Women's Soccer Knocks Off #1 UNC

Virginia Tech's women's soccer team beat top-ranked UNC Sunday, 1-0 behind a goal by Marika Gray. The win is Tech's first ever over the Tar Heels, the most decorated team in women's soccer, and is just the 34th defeat in 31 years of UNC women's soccer.

Miami Kickoff Set for 3:30pm on ABC

Ryan Williams to Start at Tailback; Kenny Jefferson Suspended

Per hokiesports.com, Virginia Tech announced Thursday afternoon that redshirt freshman Ryan Williams will start at tailback for the Hokies in Saturday night's Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Alabama in Atlanta. Tech also announced that fullback Kenny Jefferson is suspended for the game for violating team rules.

Hokies Hold Last Scrimmage, Will Now Focus on Alabama

Wednesday afternoon, in a scrimmage closed to the public, the Hokies got strong performances from Tyrod Taylor, several wide receivers, running backs David Wilson and Josh Oglesby, and the number one defense. The scrimmage pitted the #1 offense against the #2 and #3 defenses, and the #1 defense against the #2 and #3 offenses.

2009-10 Men's Basketball Schedule Released

Virginia Tech released the 2009-10 men's basketball schedule on Tuesday afternoon. Besides the typical 16 games against ACC competition, the Hokies will also play four other power conference teams during their non-conference slate.

Hokies Ranked 7th in AP Preseason Poll

The Associated Press preseason football poll was released Saturday morning, and Virginia Tech is ranked #7, the same ranking the Hokies received in the coaches' poll. The ranking matches Virginia Tech's highest-ever preseason AP ranking. VT also achieved a #7 ranking prior to the 2005 season.

Darren Evans Tears ACL, Will Miss 2009 Season

Virginia Tech announced Tuesday evening that starting tailback Darren Evans tore the ACL in his left knee in practice Tuesday and will miss the 2009 season. Evans had already sprained the knee previously Friday in practice.. Evans used a redshirt year in 2007, and his injury opens the door for redshirt freshman Ryan Williams, redshirt sophomore Josh Oglesby, and true freshman David Wilson to step up and contribute.

Hokies Ranked 7th in Preseason Coaches' Poll

The USAToday Top 25 Coaches' Poll has been released, and the Hokies are ranked #7. Chick-fil-A Classic opponent Alabama is ranked #5, setting up a big showdown between the Hokies and Tide in Atlanta on college football's first weekend. The ACC has four teams in the top 25, with the Hokies easily being the highest-ranked team in the league.

Boise State Game Officially Announced

WTVR-6 out of Richmond reported Tuesday night that Virginia Tech will open the 2010 football season against Boise State at FedExField in Landover, MD. 2009 Recruiting Class Begins to Enroll

These players will have a month to acclimate themselves to the college life before preseason practice begins on August 6. Hokies Finish 46th in Directors' Cup

Another academic year is in the books, and Virginia Tech finished 46th nationally in the final Directors' Cup standings. The Directors' Cup is awarded each year to the school with the best overall athletics program in the country. Stanford won the award for the 15th straight year. Hokies Quietly Filling Out Future Football Schedules

A reader emailed us Monday to let us know that hokiesports.com had updated their future football schedules page with new information for the 2013-2015 seasons. That sent us on a mission to check out the changes, and it turns out that perusing the future schedules page reveals new opponents, dates added to some future games, and a marked decrease in instances of future opponents being labeled as "TBD."

Marcel Lomnicky Brings a National Title to Virginia Tech

21 year old Virginia Tech freshman Marcel Lomnicky won the National Championship in the hammer throw on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Arkansas. He is Tech's first National Champion since Spyridon Jullien won four national championships, taking both the weight throw and hammer throw in 2005 and 2006. Also: Mike Brizendine hired as men's soccer coach, Bill Courtney hired as assistant men's basketball coach.
