Hokies Ranked #13 in Both Polls
September 7, 2010
Both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches' Poll were released on Tuesday afternoon, and the Hokies are ranked #13 in both polls in the wake of their 33-30 loss at the hands of Boise State.

2010-11 Basketball Schedule Released

The Virginia Tech basketball schedule was released today, and it's a far cry from last year's soft non-conference schedule that landed the Hokies in the NIT. Tech is taking on some excellent competition before ACC play kicks in this year.

Nike Unveils All-Black Pro Combat Hokie Uniforms

Nike held a press conference this morning in New York to unveil the 2010 Nike Pro Combat uniforms, and the latest worst-kept secret in Virginia Tech football was revealed: the Hokies will sport all-black uniforms Monday night when they kick off at FedExField against the Boise State Broncos.

Morgan, Exum to Add New Roles

With game week preparations for Boise State beginning on Wednesday, the Virginia Tech coaching staff sat down on Sunday to come up with their traveling roster, and also decided on some potential position changes.

Lorenzo Williams Out for Season; Xavier Boyce to Miss 4-6 Weeks

Two Virginia Tech football players underwent MRIs on Tuesday night, and the results were not good. Whip linebacker Lorenzo Williams will miss the 2010 season with a Lisfranc sprain, and wide receiver Xavier Boyce will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL.

Hokies Ranked #10 in AP Preseason Poll; Beamer's Contract Extended

The 2010 preseason Associated Press poll was released Saturday, and the Hokies are ranked #10 in the nation. Tech's opening opponent, Boise State, is ranked #3, setting up a top-ten matchup at FedExField on Labor Day night. Alabama is #1 in the poll, and overall, five ACC teams are ranked in the top 20.

Thomas Named #2 Quarterback

The Virginia Tech coaching staff met on Sunday, and on Monday they announced that Logan Thomas has been named the #2 quarterback. Ju-Ju Clayton will be #3. Both quarterbacks will continue to get work throughout August, but Thomas will be working with the #2 offense from this point forward.

Toe Injury Sidelines Becton
August 10, 2010
Starting left tackle Nick Becton suffered a sprained toe in Sunday's practice and will miss 1-2 weeks of action. He'll be replaced in the starting lineup by Andrew Lanier, who has starting experience from last season.

Hokies Ranked 6th in Preseason Coaches' Poll
August 6, 2010
The first USA Today Coaches' Poll of the 2010 season was released on Friday, and the Hokies are ranked #6 in the country. That is the highest preseason ranking in school history, and Tech will begin practice today in preparation for a much anticipated opener against #5 Boise State.

Hokies Picked by ACC Media to Win 2010 Championship

On Monday afternoon, the ACC media tabbed the Virginia Tech Hokies as the favorites to win the ACC Championship this season. They also gave high praise to Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Williams in the preseason Player of the Year voting, though neither one was the leading vote-getter.

ACC Announces Television Deal with ESPN

The television contract between ESPN and the ACC was finally officially announced on Thursday afternoon, and it will feature approximately 4,800 ACC events over the course of 12 years on ESPN television outlets, digital and mobile platforms, syndication and more.

Hokies Finish 38th in Directors' Cup
July 6, 2010
The College World Series ended last week, and it brought a close to the 2009-2010 college athletic year. The Hokies had one of their best overall years in school history, and their ranking in the Directors' Cup was one of their highest ever.

Wolff Hired as Director of Basketball Operations

Seth Greenberg completed his coaching staff on Tuesday when Virginia Tech announced the hiring of Dennis Wolff as Director of Basketball Operations. With the hiring of Wolff, Greenberg now has a full, working basketball staff.

Harrison Dominates NCAA Championships

Virginia Tech track & field star Queen Harrison became the first woman to win the National Championship in both the 400m and 100m hurdles over the weekend. She led a women's track & field team that finished fifth nationally, while the men's team finished 10th.

Seven Hokies Drafted on Tuesday

Seven Virginia Tech players were selected on day two of the 2010 MLB draft on Tuesday. That set a new Virginia Tech record, beating out 1982's five drafted players. Among the drafted players were two seniors, three juniors and two sophomores.

Tech's Season Ends with Loss to South Carolina

Virginia Tech's baseball season came to an end on Sunday night with a 10-2 loss to host team South Carolina in the NCAA Regionals. The Hokies finished the season 40-22 and will likely be in the postseason Top 25 at the conclusion of the College World Series.

Hokies Stay Alive by Beating The Citadel

Virginia Tech defeated The Citadel 4-3 in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon, and it will now come down to the Hokies and the South Carolina Gamecocks for the Regional Championship.

Hokies Eliminate Bucknell
June 5, 2010
The Virginia Tech baseball team defeated Bucknell 16-7 in a game that lasted over five hours thanks to weather delays. Bucknell is now eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies will face the loser of tonight's South Carolina-Citadel game in an elimination game on Sunday.

Hokies Face Must Win Situation on Saturday

Playing in their first NCAA Regional since 2000, Virginia Tech was defeated by The Citadel 7-2 on Friday afternoon in Columbia, SC. That puts the Hokies in a must-win situation on Saturday against Bucknell.

Richardson Hired as Assistant Basketball Coach

After a couple of weeks of waiting, John Richardson has officially been named Virginia Tech's third assistant men's basketball coach. Seth Greenberg and Virginia Tech made the announcement on Wednesday.

Hokies Set for NCAA Regionals

The Virginia Tech baseball team will travel to Columbia, SC this weekend for their NCAA Regional, where they will face The Citadel in their opening game. The Hokies are the #2 seed in the regional, with the host team South Carolina Gamecocks the #1 seed.

Hokies Fall to NC State 10-9
May 30, 2010
Virginia Tech played a little over four hours of baseball on Saturday, but fell to NC State 10-9 in 10 innings. The Hokies held a 9-8 lead heading into the ninth inning, but couldn't hold on. They will now await their NCAA Regional fate.

Hokies Defeat Clemson in ACC Tournament

Virginia Tech gutted out a 9-8 win over #2 seed Clemson on Friday in the ACC Baseball Tournament. Centerfielder Sean Ryan's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth provided the go-ahead run, and closer Ben Rowen shut down the Tigers in the top of the ninth.

Hokies to Meet Kansas State in Hoops

Seth Greenberg is beefing up his non-conference schedule in a big way. He told the Roanoke Times on Wednesday that the Hokies will be playing at Kansas State this year in a made for television game on ESPN. A time and date have not been announced, but it is expected to be very early in the season. There will be a return trip to Blacksburg in 2011-12.

Wright Pitches Hokies to Victory Against Yellow Jackets
May 28, 2010
Justin Wright pitched a complete-game gem in Virginia Tech's first-ever ACC Championship baseball game in the current eight-team format, and the 18th-ranked Hokies downed sixth-ranked Georgia Tech 6-2. Wright struck out a career-high 15 in a game that ended after midnight Thursday. The sixth-seeded Hokies will play #2 seed Clemson Friday at 4:00 p.m.
