Maury Sophomore Guard Drawing ACC Interest

Eastern region runner-up Maury (Norfolk, VA) finished with a 22-8 record in 2009/2010, in a season in which head coach Jack Baker captured the 600 victory of his career. A solid group, led by a talented backcourt that includes sophomore guard Jamal Ferguson and junior point guard Sim Frazier, will return next year.

Quick Take With Jarell Eddie

Cannon School (Concord, N.C.) finished the 2009/2010 season with a 17-14 overall record. The team was led by senior Jarell Eddie, a 6-7, 210-pound forward who averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds and four assists and two blocks per game. Eddie will now move on to Virginia Tech, the school he signed with last November and where he expects to enroll in late May.

2011 Hoops Class Could be Special, but Hokies Must Close Strong

The 2011 men's basketball recruiting class will arguably be the most important class of the Seth Greenberg era. The Hokies will depart five seniors following next season, and they need to be replaced with quality prospects. Tech is in on some outstanding prospects for this class, but closing the deal with them remains the most important part or the process.

Tech's Pursuit Keyed Barksdale Commitment

George Washington (Danville, VA) forward C.J. Barksdale ended his recruitment in late December, following through on a desire to commit to a school before the end of his junior year. The 6-7, 225-pound junior won't be able to sign a letter of intent with Virginia Tech until November, but he decided to end his recruitment sooner rather than later. Why?

VT Eyeing Butler 2011 G Anthony Stitt

Butler (Matthews, N.C.) guard Anthony Stitt is hoping a big-time junior season equates to major Division 1 offers. The 6-1, 175-pound prospect has some solid offers in the fold already, including Charlotte, Richmond, VCU and William & Mary, but the higher level D1 programs would like to see more.

Highly Ranked Jr. PG Considering Hokies

Vance (Charlotte, NC) head coach Will Robinson had heard about Marquis Rankin heading into the 2007/2008 season. Rankin, then a rising freshman, didn't disappoint. "Three days into open gym that year, I told an assistant, 'I think we've got something special,'" Robinson said. "We loved him from day one because of his work ethic. He's coachable and talented."

Checking in with VT 2011 Recruit Rob Brown

Before 6-4 junior guard Rob Brown stepped onto the court for East Ridge (Clermont, FL) this season, he worked hard on the summer AAU circuit to improve his overall game. Brown was pleased with how the AAU season went and is currently enjoying a solid 2009/2010 season for East Ridge, which is ranked sixth in the Florida Class 6A ranks with a 12-2 overall record.

Barksdale's Commitment a Sign of Progress

Virginia Tech received a basketball commitment over the weekend from GW-Danville power forward C.J. Barksdale, and it's a big commitment indeed. This is the type of commitment that followers of the program have been waiting for since ACC expansion, and Barksdale provided it over the weekend. It was unexpected, but it was a nice Christmas surprise nonetheless.

Top Junior Forward Picks Hokies

TechSideline.com has learned that George Washington (Danville, VA) junior C.J. Barksdale, a 6-7, 225-pound forward, has verbally committed to Virginia Tech. One of the most highly rated forwards in the 2011 class, Barksdale chose Tech over offers from Alabama, Florida, Maryland and Wake Forest. He also had interest from Kentucky, North Carolina, Villanova and others.

Oettinger Reviews Virginia Tech's Class

ACC Sports Journal Basketball Recruiting Analyst Brick Oettinger took some time to discuss Virginia Tech's 2010 men's basketball recruiting class. The Hokies signed two players - guard Tyrone Garland and guard/forward Jarell Eddie - and Florida transfer forward Allan Chaney will become eligible in the 2010/2011 season. Oettinger discusses all of these players as well as 2011 guard commit Rob Brown and mentions possible 2010 and 2011 class targets.

The standout junior, ranked a 5-star prospect by Scout.com and a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com, will be the Cadets most highly acclaimed prospect since forward Ed Davis, who signed with North Carolina in the 2008 recruiting class.

4-Star Commit Reflects on Official Visit

Cannon School (Concord, N.C.) star guard/forward Jarell Eddie enjoyed a packed itinerary on the official visit he made to Virginia Tech last weekend. The 6-7, 210-pound senior did everything from touring the new basketball practice facility to attending Virginia Tech's home football win over Marshall to having dinner at head coach Seth Greenberg's house. Overall, the Virginia Tech commitment seemed to have enjoyed the experience quite a bit.

Manning Discusses VT, Clemson Trips

John Manning's 3-school trip last week was productive...long, but productive. The 6-11, 220-pound Chantilly (VA) junior started last Wednesday with a visit to the University of Virginia, toured Virginia Tech last Thursday and ended with a trip to Clemson on Saturday. TSL caught up with the Manning following the first leg of the trip, and now he took time to discuss the latter two visits.

Chantilly (VA) center John Manning is in the midst of a flurry of visits, taking in three ACC schools beginning with today's experience at the University of Virginia. The 6-11 junior, whose parents both attended UVa, has been to Charlottesville before. He has not, however, visited since Tony Bennett took over the program.

Brown, a 6-4, 170-pound prospect, committed to Coach Greenberg and company this morning according to Florida Assault/Showtime Ballers AAU coach Diana Neal.

Tyrone Garland, a 6-1, 165-pound point guard out of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia (PA), has committed to Virginia Tech. Garland, a rising senior rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, becomes the second prospect to commit to Seth Greenberg in the 2010 class.

6-4, 180-pound Jerian Grant claims five scholarship offers, including Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Providence, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) standout rising senior, son of former Oklahoma and NBA standout Harvey Grant, is looking to sign in November but at this point does not have a favorite.

Only twelve rising juniors were selected to participate in last week's NBAPA Top 100 Camp. One of the two state of Virginia rising juniors included George Washington (Danville, VA) standout C.J. Barksdale, a 6-7, 195-pound forward who is one of the Commonwealth's top prospects in the 2011 class.

Two-guard Jarell Eddie, Virginia Tech's lone commit in the 2010 class, enjoyed a successful junior season, leading the Cannon School (Concord, N.C.) to a conference co-championship and a quarterfinal appearance in the state playoffs. The 6-7 rising senior enjoyed taking a leadership role on what was a senior-laden Cannon squad in 2008/2009.
