I never said TSL, I, or anybody else doesn't care that women's
basketball isn't winning right now. I'd love to see them succeed, and
I went to pretty much every game when I was a student and tickets were
free for me and I had plenty of free time. I actually travelled to
Liberty to watch them play once (how many Tech fans can truly say that?)
I want Virginia Tech to do a GREAT job in all sports, as you said.
I think some people don't realize that with TSL, it's a 2-man
operation. To cover women's basketball, we'd really have to hire a
third person. That's not cost effective at all. Please remember that
TSL is not just a website, but it's owned by a larger company. Will
and I do not own it. The financial decisions aren't up to us. It
took a little bit of maneuvering to get them to hire me back in 2005
to expand the staff to TWO people to cover football and men's basketball.
In short, taking on another sport full-time is pretty much impossible.
We've been running some softball updates recently, but with no
football or basketball right now, our workloads have decreased.
Please understand that I wasn't trying to be mean-spirited about
women's basketball. I was just saying that there are only so many
hours in the day, and only two of us. If we had more writers and the
workload was spread out more, then sure, we'd find some time for
women's basketball, even if we got nothing out of it. But we don't,
and we don't have the option to hire anyone else either.
