I see all the exchanges about the need to recruit ACC caliber players. I
am not arguing against that. What I also see are statements that we
don't have ACC caliber players on our roster other than Cook. My
question is "how was Cook perceived 2-3 years ago." She had a
decent redshirt freshman year with nice moments. How was she
perceveid?
My point is that you never know how players will develop and what they
will become. Jamon Gordon, Zabian Dowdell, and Deron Washington
were not seen as ACC players (by some) byt they won.
Back to women's basketball: We have players in the past who were raw
or were projects and they contributed. I can see players that are
currently on the roster contribute to a solid, winning team as they
develop. It would be great to get to the level of Maryland, UNC, or Duke
in the ACC. It will take better players and we can get those. The image
of VT as a women's basketball home has to continue to grow. But I
hazard that some of the players on the current team will improve, will
get better, will develop into ACC players. I am really interested in
seeing what these sophomores do.
