TechSideline.com Forums Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What do I do if I have trouble logging into my account?

Most questions involving login issues can be resolved by reading the TechSideline.com Help page. For frequently asked questions involving the message boards specifically, please read the text below.

How do I register to post on the message boards?

Just go to the registration page and fill out the required information. You will need to supply a Last Name, First Name, Email Address and the Username that you want to be known as on the boards. Please do not type in a ficticious name, for this will only make it harder for us to locate your account if you need assistance later on.

I have lost or forgotten my password. Should I just re-register?

No. Please do not re-register as this can cause problems later on. If you have lost or forgotten your password, please request a Temporary Password.

How do I change my account information?

You have the ability to change most every aspect of your account information (i.e. password, email address, etc.) from your ACCOUNT INFO page, with the exception of your Username. To access the your ACCOUNT INFO page, you must first have an account and you have to be logged in. The LOGIN link is located at the top of the web site. After logging in, you will see the link to the ACCOUNT INFO page in the same area.

Will my Username and Password work for all message boards?

Yes. The database automatically lets you use the same information for all of the message boards found on TechSideline.com.

How do I view messages that have fallen off of the main message board?

There are two ways to view older messages. You can use the SEARCH MESSAGES feature, or you can scroll to the bottom of the message board and click MORE MESSAGES.

More Messages will take you to the previous screen of messages. You can search messages via this method as far back as you want to go.

To search for specific messages, just select the "Search Messages" button at the top of the message board. You may choose to search by date, Username, or even keywords. You may do a multiple search as well (i.e. search for a Username that posted a message about recruiting on a certain date).

When searching by date, the only messages that appear are Original messages. Replies are only seen when clicking on that message.

NOTE: We limit the number of messages we keep in the database (usually 10,000 total per message board). So, you will only be able to search back but so far.

What does the "email link" checkbox do?

If you would like people that read your message to be able to email you from that post, then you can click that checkbox right before you post your message.

What does the "email replies to you address" checkbox do?

If you check this box, all replies to your post will be emailed to your address.

How do I use the "URL Link" text box?

If you'd like to have someone see another web page on the Internet, then you may place the link to it from here. You will need to include the entire web address (i.e. http://www.example.com). The easiest way to do this is to go to that web page and hi-light the web address at the top of your browser. After it is hi-lighted, hold down the CTRL key and hit C (or CTRL+C). This will copy the address. Go to your message board post and click the text box (space next to URL Link). Use the CTRL+V to paste the text into that area. This will ensure that you have correctly provided that web site address.

Don't forget to fill in the "URL Link Title" section right above it. This is important. You can title you link anything you want.

How do I put a picture inside my post?
OR:
What does the "Optional Image URL" do, and how do I use it?

The "Optional Image URL" box allows you to post the known web address of an image you want to present in your post. You cannot just name an image that is on your hard drive (but there's a workaround -- see below). The image must be visible on the web.

Here's how to make it work: Find an image on the web that you want to use. "Right Mouse" click on that image and look for the "name" of that image (i.e. it may say "View Image (ram.gif)"). Select that menu option. You should now just see the image by itself on the webpage. Copy the URL address at the top and use it to paste into the OPTIONAL IMAGE URL text window that is located at the bottom of your message or reply.

Once you hit REPLY or POST, your image should be visible at the bottom of your message. It's a good idea to double check the address that you have pasted into that box to make sure you didn't cut any letters off at the beginning or end. Make sure you have the entire URL (i.e. http://www.somewhere.net/somewhere/image.gif).

How do I embed a picture from my hard drive into a post?

First, you have to store the picture from your hard drive somewhere on the web. To do that, go here and follow the instructions:

http://www.brinkleys.org/users/tsl/

That's a utility that's pretty simple to use, and when you're done, your picture will be stored on the web, and you can then embed it in a post using the "Optional Image URL" box, the use of which is described above.

What do we do about people who abuse the Terms Of Service?

Please contact us if you feel that someone is violating the Terms Of Service. We want these boards to remain a great place for people to enjoy civilized discussion about college athletics.
