Subject: From Brad Greenberg's email newsletter....

B-Rad Hoops, which I get, is the name of Brad's email newsletter, and
the most recent one has this section (I inserted a few paragraph
breaks to make it easier to read:

===================
This week the NCAA approved some groundbreaking rules changes
regarding recruiting. The board of directors unanimously endorsed a
series of rules to prevent the funneling of money to those close to
recruits.

For years “guys” close to high caliber players have had increasing
influence in the recruiting process. Years ago a prospect relied on
parents and the High School coach to help make decisions on where to
matriculate.

As summer club basketball has grown, so too have prospect’s circle of
influence come to include summer club coaches. And with that has come
some creative ways for coaches to recruit big-time prospects.

For instance….. if a summer coach wants to make some extra cash he
might market a “scouting service” with information about players on
his summer club team. Just about every college program subscribes to
“scouting services.” Many are legitimate with solid contact and
player information that helps a school narrow the list of prospects
they might pursue.

But some summer coaches create lightweight scouting reports and charge
absurd fees in extortion-like practices in order for a school to get
on the radar with a recruit.

The NCAA also included legislation to be voted on later to stop
“package deals” where a school hires a friend of a prospect in some
coaching or administrative capacity to eventually sign a prospect
close to that hire.

And schools are no longer allowed to employ a person associated with a
prospect at a camp or clinic. Violations surrounding abuses of paying
a friend of a prospect to work a camp or be a clinician to gain
recruiting favor can now result in suspension from regular season or
NCAA tournament games.

Will here again: All good moves. Way too late, but all good moves.

The problem is that the cockroaches will find a new way to circumvent
the system. Cockroaches are like that.
