. . . he simply doesn't stand out, at first glance.
I can guarantee you this - anybody on this board that has not seen him
play, or has not seen a picture of him where you would recognize him -
if you saw HV's basketball team come out for pre-game warm ups,
you'd probably not pick him out. You'd have about a 1 in 4 or 5 chance
of guessing it right.
HV is a pretty tall team, for a public (i.e. non-recruited) high school
team, and has some pretty decent basketball players on it, and among
them, Boggs just doesn't stand out at first glance.
But, when it comes to a game, he starts to stand out and can take a
game over when he wants to (but in Group AA in Virginia, just what
does that mean?). He's a good FT shooter, has a pretty good outside
shot (nice form, nice fundamentals), can play good D.
One thing that does become a bit of a concern - he loses some of his
star power at the HS level when he gets out of the Roanoke Valley. In
other words, when he's gotten to Richmond in state tournament play,
sans the HV friendly officiating he seems to get, he tends to be less of
a factor, in foul trouble, nothing spectacular - kind of like the pre-game
warm up situation.
I think he'll be a good fundamental role player for VT, but not a
superstar, maybe never start. He's like some of those guys that UNC
has come off of the bench and do their very specific thing, like a Bobby
Frasor or somebody like that. 15-18 mins a game, maybe more,
depending on the situations. Might come in as a freshman and be as
good as he'll be and kind of level off for his career, but could be a pretty
valuable member of a 13 man roster.
