IMO, ND needs to get burned by the playoff formula before they will join a conference. The longer ND stays in the 8-10 wins/yr range, the longer they stay independent. At that level, they can continue to be part of the Big East Bowl pool.

The deciding moment comes when ND goes 11-1. Do they go to the playoff on their SOS and high program recognition? Or do they get left out due to no conference championship?
