Heinz Field is the same distance from campus as the NRV mall is from Tech's campus. i can't think of a worse way to spend that much money. besides, they are out of real estate big enough to do that in Oakland. the new basketball arena and student centers pretty much gobbled up the last prime real estate big enough from what i understand.
i understand, in a city, going 5 miles is much different than going 5 miles from Tech to the NRV Mall, but they offer shuttles, there is plenty of tailgating space to make a day of it, it's a modern facility with all the amenities both players and fans could ask for. beyond the romance of an on campus stadium, it just wouldn't make ANY sense.
This is not Miami Gardens which is 1/2 hour away from Coral Gables with ZERO traffic, this is not Hartford which is also 30-45 minutes from Storrs on a good day. this is a 10 minute bus ride or car ride for their students. hell, Tech students living out North Main past Patrick Henry probably had it just as bad as Pitt students...just saying...
Yep. Per MapQuest, it's 4.2 miles, 9 minutes. Clicky below.
