Well, it's not the first time it has happened. Spitz had 7, Gary Hall had 4, relative to most if not all other sports, there are certainly more multiple medal winners. QED. That just doesn't happen in running, I suspect the difference between a sprinter's body to a marathoner is much greater than in swimming. But again, the fact that it happens often tells you something.
The closest you're going to get is something like Carl Lewis/Jesse Owens 4 Golds (100m, 200m, 4x100m, LJ). There are more swimming events (and relays) that are closer to each other than there are in T&F. It just is what it is.
