Navy is basically a Service Academy version of Wake Forest. Their academics are excellent, their olypmic sports are good. Sure the football team and basketball teams won't be doing much in the post season but think about all the Navy vets out there. That's a huge number of eyeballs across the country/world. Also plays Notre Dame every year.

Rutgers
is basically NC State with better academics. Big state school, decent Olympic sports, but decent/meh football & basketball. NJ is a big state and while generally Rutgers alums aren't big sports fans, the potential exists. Playing Rutgers regularly also gets ACC schools exposure in a very talent rich state for recruiting purposes. Not only football but basketball too.

UConn has good academics and great basketball but they're they are in a swarm of controversy and face NCAA penalties. It's also a situation where there's a good chance their basketball teams stumble greatly when their coaches retire. Small state, small school. Zero recruiting impact, maybe a little boost to the basketball schedule for a few years but that's it.
i don't think Navy wants in the ACC, even if we called.

as far as Rutgers, i do like their potential, i'm just skeptical that they ever reach it. i think umd is a better comparison than ncsu. umd, even with ACC money and support, had to cut multiple sports programs. Rutgers Athletic Dept is a train wreck, and there is a legacy of ongoing infighting between the faculty side and the athletic sides in New Brunswick. i'm not sure a conference change would fix any of that.

and i agree 100% on UConn...
