While I am no JS fan, you also have to realize that he did not have a very good hand to play in all of this conference expansion/realignment. Realistically, who could the ACC go after that fits their profile - very slim pickings. The ACC's entire strategy (since the time that VT, Miami, and BC joined the ACC)has been to get ND, and the only way that was/is going to happen is for the ACC to force ND's hand by destabilizing the BigEast - ie. force ND to have to make a move and hope the move is to the ACC and not one of the other conferences. Unfortunately, there are no football powerhouses that the ACC could get that fit into the ACC's profile. So in essence, the ACC is stuck from a football perspective of being in 5th place and there is nothing JS can/could do about that.
Now, where I think you can find fault with JS is the current ACC TV contract. He seems to have really screwed that one up.
