"Had lunch with a former Professor who is now a full professor at ND and on the Athletics council. Said that the Irish would be making a move for full conference affiliation in the next 6 to 9 months. Told me that if Swofford doesn't screw it up, ND prefers ACC for Academics, geographic fit, possible football dominance, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. Sure hope Swofford gets credible help with this, since this could move us as a conference back into a major player in all aformentioned sports."

Who knows? Maybe the WVU message board is right for once.
One thing's for sure: If Notre Dame joins the ACC, the conference's TV deal will be renegotiated for substantially more money.

That post has been going on now for about 3-4 days. They guy I do believe is someone that is sorta viable. What I gathered is that ND would want NAVY to come in.

I can't see Navy joining any of the top 5 conferences. Their football stadium has a seating capacity of 34,000 (ACC can't afford another Duke and Wake sized stadium) and their arena, Alumni Hall, only seats 5,710. Navy is comfortable playing their sports in the Patriot League. They would do okay in sports like soccer, lacrosse, and wrestling but they would be perennial cellar dwellers in men's basketball and would be in the bottom third in football most years. Notre Dame would just have to continue to play Navy as an OOC game and drop 3 of their 5 (Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford, and USC) traditional games. They won't be the first school that had to drop long time rivalries, almost every school has done so during realignment. Just ask Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, ... Even Penn State dropped Pitt and Tech dropped WVU when changing conferences.

"If" Notre Dame did decide to join the ACC in 6 to 9 months, the ACC would get a national brand with a huge fan base. As members of the ACC, Notre Dame can continue their mediocrity in football and disappoint the ACC like Miami and FSU have done since conference expansion in 2004. Kind of a TIC, but possibly a reality.

The main thing for me is that with the additional money that Notre Dame would bring to each league member, FSU's financial woes would be a thing of the past. They'd no longer need to entertain thoughts of leaving for the Big 12. The ACC's future viability would be assured.
