National championships matter to blue chip recruits. We've worked hard to get a few AAs....but now we need to focus on getting the ellusive title. Carter has the talent to be among the elite at 141, however, last year he relied a bit too much on his motor. The elite guys such as Oliver, Steiber and even Ramos (he passed by Devin mid-year), exposed some fixable flaws in Devin's style.
Showing commitment to getting blue-chip wrestlers national championships is vital. Getting lots of AAs may not be enough to get a top 20 wrestler.
Plus, we might get fifth with Neibert there. If we stay healthy, I think we could do well in all classes. Vivtron and I like to organize the team in five tiers:
Tier one- Top 5
Tier two- Ranked 6-15 (borderline AA)
Tier three- Ranked 15-25
Tier four- NCAA qualifier
Tier five- All the rest
Carter is definately a tier 1 guy. Assuming he is redshirting and Borlie is at 197, we look like....
Tier 1- 125, 157, 165
Tier 2- 141, 149, 197, 285
Tier 3- 133
Tier 4- 174 (I'm playing this very conservative...Evans could be a tier 2 or three), 184
I think Neibert is a solid t-2, that if he manages his weight well, could be an AA. I'd like to see us groom Devin for a championship.
