VT has the advantages of a much larger student body, wealthier alumni, a much larger home state without competition from an SEC power, an althletic department that generates more gross revenue and more profit, a strong media presence in a huge metro market. Clemson has tradition that stretches back longer than VT, and a bigger stadium.

So I tend not to ask "when will Clemson surpass VT". I instead ask why has VT passed Clemson by a mile? If we can convert more of Virginia into football fans it will be easy.

Clemson has a long tradition of stability including a national championship. They also have a long standing ability to have more money at their disposal, a fan base that acts more like an SEC one (with all the infractions to show).

When you look at how Clemson can recruit under Dabo, Tommy and those before it shows they have something. If Frank had that much to work with he would have a much better won loss record than Dabo, Tommy and Tommy.
