Academics: Paul Tudor Jones writes about his concerns about UVA (link)

White a lot of UVA people are upset about the way the president got canned, it is inspiring to see an alum let everyone know that things that are "good enough" really aren't.

Agreed, that's an impressive sentiment, and the article F4EHokie linked about O'Neil's departure is very interesting, too.

so basically his complaint is that uva has slipped slightly.. so dramatic change must be made.

    1) the vast majority of the slip he complains about happened before sullivan got there
    2) drastic change rarely yields drastic improvement. since we are on a football board, think syracuse firing paul p. or texas a&m firing rc slocum. hell. think about uva firing george welsh.
    3) sullivan was implementing change. she was making broad changes across the university.
    4) there is no indication that the firing had anything to do with uva's ranking, so this article is a bit irrelevant. in fact, the BOV has not given any indication of what their reasoning is.
    5) this firing has been horrible press for the university. it doesn't help its reputation at all.

Gobblers, this situation is very disconcerting for The University community. We do not enjoy our dirty laundry put on display in newspapers and splashed across the internet like some virtual clothesline. While we are not perfect, we would rather our few and well disgused flaws remain shielded behind a veneer of gentility and jocularity. The very foundations of The Rotunda have been shaken, and shrouds over the volutes of the columns may not contain the damage.

Apologies Mr. Sandusky. My regular girl is on vacation this week and I am not comfortable having one of the girls from the secretarial pool proofreading my messages on a VPI message board for spelling errors. Mary Margaret will perform this function when I am posting from home or river place, but this week at the office I am working without a net.
