+1 would be a PR black eye. not only that, the SEC has said they will not even consider that model, and the ACC and Big12 are also in favor of a seeded 4 team playoff. only the Pac12 is firmly in favor of the +1 (B1G has been all over the place in their statements), and they know they can't have it, so they are leveraging for something. could it be how the revenue is split? could it be a "host" model for the semi finals? something else? i have no clue since i'm not in the meetings, but they are angling for something, and using the +1 as their line in the sand to get it.
Speaking of how money will be split. Listening to SiriusXM few days ago and there seems to be some sentiment that if 2 teams from same conference participate, that conference will only get 1.5 times the normal payout rather than double dipping. The other .5 would be split between the two other participating conferences. In addition there may be a rule that a minimum of 3 conferences or 2 conferences plus an independent must be in the playoff. One caller suggested that teams from the same conference must meet in the semifinal game ...so not Bama and LSU in the final.
Wonder if Irish participated as an independent, would they get a full conference share?
