Lot's of schools from lots of conferences have been screwed by polls and by "selection committees" (i'm considering bowl committees as selection committees for BCS football). undefeated Auburn was left at #3 by voters who supposedly bow to the SEC. i seem to recall the Pac10 complaining for years about being passed over on BCS at-large opportunities. it was just 6 months ago that VT, an ACC school, was given a BCS at-large spot.
also, how is Notre Dame getting special treatment? no system will be approved that shuts out Army or Navy even though everyone knows they have no shot. giving ND special treatment would be to start the season locked into one of the 4 spots unless they lose 3 games or something. i hate the domers, but they generally play one of the toughest schedules in the country. if they can win enough of those games to be in the top 4, why shouldn't they be in the playoff?
The top 4 teams is the right approach, and the top 4 teams will have at least 3 conference champions 9 years out of 10. i don't know why there is so much hand-wringing going on over this. the old system was the top 2 teams in the country playing, we're just expanding the field to generate more money.
