The simple fact is that Blacksburg is NOT a basketball school. The alumni are too far away to travel in and the students in general do not care. I say students as a whole, not the ones reading this board in the summer.

Football is an event. Basketball is a 2 hour game.

Our best years are behind us.
FALSE

At worst, VT basketball slides back to complete mediocrity. The program has never been more than just above average IMHO. With that as a backdrop, I say give Coach Johnson at least a chance before declaring the program DOA.

Basketball fortunes, unlike football, can dramatically change with just one player. VCU went from state level mediocrity to the Final 4 with a largely unknown coach and few high rated players. In that case, an energetic coach with a "new" approach, favorable matchups and lots of luck help propel VCU basketball to a record run in the NCAA big dance.

Unless you are sage at predicting the future, how about we wait and see how this season turns out before we jump off the nearest high bridge?
