Two reasons, networking and association, ask the B1G or the Ivies. Any school in the mid west would love to get into the B1G and any private school in the northeast would love to be in the Ivy league. Why?
Because the association and networking that takes place in those two brings in huge and I mine HUGE dollars to the schools because of it. I am not talking about the millions that come in for sports...I am talking about the Billions that come in for research and many projects.
PS Yes the Ivy League is an athletic conference. That's how they got joined together and people talk about them together. They are a Brand (Image) that sells itself before they even open their mouth. The ACC wants that...they want to be the Big Conference Ivy.
