The difference is, earnest money deposits are paid up front into escrow. TCU never put down a deposit or anything.
No, but they signed on knowing there was a penalty for not fulfilling their obligation to participate in the Big East. Maybe buyouts of future games would be more comparable. Either way, they didn't dump on the Big East because other teams bailed. They dumped on them because they got a better offer.
