Excellent post Rev!!
I dont know what age you are and i am not asking that but do you remember the Dennis Mims years at all?....If you do, think of Mims and everything he was about and represented....Trez Harrell has some of that in him.
You are right, I wasnt the biggest fan of Harrell's, I admit that... Other scouts liked him better although his stock plummeted last spring and summer greatly among almost every scout in unanimity after his performances....I thought he lost his motor, didnt compete, showed he really had no skills or no game. Other than being able to run and dunk the ball. He didnt rebound or play defense and to say he was dissapointing last spring and summer was a great understatement in watching him. I proably watched at least 12-15 games of his and got to the point where I just couldnt stomach watching him anymore...He bounced back and had a good year at Hargrave and is to be commended for that but those other aspects Im afraid might still be in his personna and I know the Mims characterization is alive and well...But Im still not fully drinking that kool-aid on him...It remains to be seen if he has the motor, work ethic and consistent competiveness...Those traits cant be hidden in college and he has had large issues with each of those...Maybe he has disspelled those. Perhaps he hasnt....In any event, I think his uncertainty in those areas is a dark cloud over his entire game in all honesty...At least in my eyes...
Put that together with his lack of desire to be at Virginia Tech, his Mims-like character and just overall unpolished overall game and yeah, Im not his biggest fan at all.....I liked him very early on before Ryan Odom started recruiting him. I became less and less of a fan over time as his game was exposed and other aspects of the total package came to the surface.....He lost a lot of his desire, competitiveness and didnt show up to play enough for me..
I wish him luck though at Louisville...I never pull for bad things to happen to former recruits or commits or kids Tech chased..Very negative doing that and thats not my style... I hope Trez has a prosperous career at Louisville and I wont pull against him simply because Im not a personally big fan of his...I do think its a rather illuminating and telling sign that the only reason that Louisville started recruiting him was because Rick Pitino directed Kevin Keatts to recruit him. Kevin was NOT recruiting him initally for Louisville at all once the stuff with Tech happened. And Kevin had been at Hargrave. And Keatts was succeeded there by his assistant, A.W. Hamilton. And Keatts and Hamilton stayed in very close contact during A.W.'s first year this past season taking over....That seems more than a little odd to me that Keatts wasnt voluntarily recruiting him until Pitino directed him to...I think that speaks volumes right there given the closeness of the relationship between Keatts and A.W. Hamilton.....That tells us a ton about what each might have thought about Harrell..
