False. Greensboro is lot less expensive of a destination and closer to ACC schools and alumni bases most dedicated to basketball.
Money -- I've found a 3 or 4 star hotel in GB for < $100/night during the tourney in 2010 and 2011 and parking at GCC has $10/session. You can spend $50 per session just parking in DC.
Attendance -- I don't have actual numbers to cite, and Greensboro hasn't had wonderful attendance (certainly better than ATL or Miami though) but DC offers convenience only to Maryland and VT grads (ok, UVA too). It's ~5 hours from Raleigh/Durham and none of the original ACC schools have strong alumni bases in DC area (compared to VT and Maryland). DC is slightly more convenient than GB for those who fly in (FSU, Syracuse).
I'd like the ACC to try to retain some of it's tradition by keeping the tourney in the Carolina area. I see the benefit of having it in the same city/venue each year (like the Big East)
