I say yea. While The ACC will never have what The Big East had with Madison Square Garden I think we could build something close. The Verizon Center is a good area and DC is a great destination city. The one they had here went very well IMHO.

I think Charlotte makes sense from a geographic point. Also, I'm not a big NBA fan, but I think building a tradition where the tourney is played at an NBA arena offers something special to (at least some of) the student athletes (like having the football championship at an NFL venue).

Greensboro is so unappealing for anyone who doesn't live within easy driving distance.
To answer the original question, FALSE. I think the ACC tournament should be rotated among a number of sites:
Greensboro/Charlotte
D.C.
Atlanta/Florida
NYC/NJ/Northeast
I would like to see that rotation every four years, in whatever order. It would break up the stranglehold the NC schools have on ACC tournament. It would give fans from every school in the ACC a chance to have the tourney relatively nearby.

i prefer any downtown/urban arena where the stadium itself isn't the only destination. DC fits, CLT fits, ATL fits. i say rotate between those 3, all relatively central to the league footprint. that is what makes MSG so special. it's a festival that takes over the area around MSG. you want fans interacting in hotels, bars, restaurants, tourist sites, etc.
that is why the Sugar Bowl is the best bowl. it's a true social experience outside the game itself. Miami Gardens, Glendale and even Pasadena don't inspire that same interaction of fans. i truly believe the popularity of the CFA games (bowl and kickoff) is the proximity of the fans hotels to the dome in ATL. everyone can interact for a few days and still walk to the game.
Greensboro needs to be put out to pasture IMO..."This no more resembles that than something unlike something else resembles that." - Loosely quoting PHNC
