Polls annointed Bama #2. may have been. OK State might have waxed LSU ene worse. But they never got tyhe chance. Or waxed Bama if they played Just cause Bama won don't mean they were best team. This years fiasco was worse than the OK-LSU-USC fiasco.

QUOTE=nova1111;335343]Whole point is, conference championships and national championships are different. Conference championships are a group of schools competing with each other according to whatever scheduling rules they have inside the conference. Strong teams, mid-range teams, weak teams all play each other and somebody winds up 1st and gets a trophy. That's nice. Some schools will be independent and play other schools in various conferences. That's fine, too. So far in college football, there's never been a rule that a school must even be in a conference to play football or be eligible for a national championship.

The national championship is different, or should be. It should determine the best of the best, irrespective of conferences or whether the schools involved are even in a conference at all. The best of the best should play each other, and then you have a true national champion -- the best of the best.

It isn't a playoff between conferences. It isn't in NCAA basketball, and it shouldn't be for NCAA football. Pick the best teams available and they play each other. Just like in basketball.[/QUOTE]
