ok, let me get this straight...

according to a poster below, sec partners with b12 on bowl because Swofford bails on 'agreement' w/ sec to support top 4 in hopes of alluring nd? (side note, if true, i do question swofford's savvy there unless he know something about nd that is not otherwise known). b12 agrees to support top 4 and sec/b12 partner for a bowl which they can envision as eventually part of playoff format with rose bowl - (putting aside the logic contrary to their top 4 position- that scenario would by definition 4 conf champions). also believe that you can exclude major universities from certain states because more states would be represented by membership thereby eliminating poltical backlash? lol

an undercurrent here is positioning 4 to eventually break away from ncaa...of course all $$ driven with casualties.

starting to think acc, big10, p12 need to draw line in sand and say conf champ model...PERIOD. perhaps w/ caveat for minimum ranking. or else go to 8 team format.

of course, the powers outside sec could let them win....and schools from acc cut bait and run to other conferences.

As I responded to him in that thread, I find that sequence of events implausible. There is a long term relationship between the ACC and the SEC, you don't toss that simply because of one disagreement. I never read about any 'deal' on championship format between the two and doubt it existed.

but not sure that's type of agreement that you necessarily read about. more like /unwritten agreementhad during conversation between 'partners' on how they're going to support/proceed.

I think the opposition to the Big-12/SEC poweplay is starting to mobilize and all hell will break loose if effectively over half the schools are shut out. If the end result is forcing a 8 team playoff compromise then hoooray.

Nobody will be shut out, simply be one of the 4 best teams in the country. It only takes one 8-4 WF team to make the playoff before several on here change their tune.

you use a poor example, no way an 8-4 conference champ makes ANY playoff of only 4 teams unless their 4 losses were to top 5 teams and their conference won almost every single one of their nonconf games. I could see a conference champ with 3 L's sneak in one year out of 50 or so, but most years a playoff with only 4 teams will contain teams with only one loss or fewer.
