Anyone else hope USC-w comes off probation and wins the MNC this year? Hey... maybe USC-w and Boise State could finish 1 and 2? That might shut the SEC up for a few months anyway.
I'll be pulling for Alabama, LSU and Arkansas to all hang at least one loss on each other.
Let's be realisticker here. Basketball plays two and a half times as many games and has twice as many conferences and twice as many teams trying to make 68 or so playoff spots. With 22, or however many conference champs there are, there is OBVIOUSLY room for at-large bids. Quite a few at-large bids, in fact. But, as long as we're being realistic, you have to acknowledge that every single conference champ gets an automatic berth in the tournament first. Facts are facts... yes the hoops tournament has at-large bids, but ALL CONFERENCE CHAMPS get in first. Why should football be any different? There really shouldn't be any at-large bids before the conference champs are given automatic berths first.
So, realistically, if you want a fair playoff that includes at-large berths for losers who fail to win their conference title, then you have to have a 16 team bracket with 11 conference champs and 5 at-large berths. Anything else would be a travesty and a farce. But until you take it up past 11, it needs to be top conference champs.
