Those conferences couldn't structure a playoff that has those 4 conferences as the only participants and avoid antitrust hurdles. Besides, the ACC gets a vote on the process and based on the recent interview with Swofford, a consensus is required. The ACC isn't going to agree to anything that completely locks them out of the championship process.
What if they decide to seperate themselves from the NCAA and BCS altogether? They would still get the financial windfall that they would have minus the other conferences, the NCAA, and the BCS holding the down.
