Even if FSU and Clemson were to leave, with Rutgers and UCONN waiting in the wings, I think VT stays put.

I agree. I have a feeling we're in the ACC for better or worse til Death do us part. Personally, I don't have a problem with that. We're only playing FSU and Clemson twice every 5 years at this point. Frankly I don't buy any of the conjecture that Clemson or FSU have a foot out the door. I don't think anybody is leaving the ACC, ESPECIALLY not for the Big XII. It just doesn't make sense. The Texas League was on life support last year at this time and they have given up some pretty major quality for a couple of Big Least Rufugees. I can't fathom how any ACC school would even consider leaving a conference from which exactly ONE member has left in 60 years for a conference that has traded Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Missouri for TCU and West Virginia. Hell, even ARKANSAS scrambled to get out from the Texas League (SWC) for the SEC! If you're looking for fire because of smoke, how about all the smoke billowing from the burning Big XII?

I'm just as puzzled about the "about-face" the Big XII has done in the last yr also...But the bottom line is that they did it....like it or not and they are at the big table.

did you also believe this quote? "No one is talking about other conferences. No other conferences have been in touch with schools from the ACC"

"I think the conference is in good shape," Weaver, who moved Tech from the Big East to the ACC in 2004, said. "There's no question in my mind that we're in the right place for Virginia Tech to be."

The fact that Littlepage is joining in and saying the same thing in several different ways affects our position, too. We and UVA are joined at the hip on this thing after what UVA did for us to get us in the ACC, and don't kid yourself -- that didn't come just from Richmond -- it also came from the President's office in Charlottesville, strongly and way beyond merely backing up the governor.

There's not even a hint of a single 'but.....' anywhere there. This isn't a 'he's our coach' and then you fire him. Everybody knows that, and it's so well known it's a national joke in US sports. This stuff is different.

This language is pretty firm. A little 'personal pride' note. Steger is the ACC rep on the BCS committee, and for the time being is chairman of the BCS committee that will reform college football shortly. Maybe he doesn't want to give that up right now.

    I don't think we're going anywhere.

Leads to never ending BS, that's why.

That is what is happening with all these articles written mostly by Big 12 stooges (McMurphy and Swaim) or SEC (Dodd and Doyle) if you ask enough people and pose an infinite number of hypotheticals, you will get the predetermined opinion expressed that they would want to change conferences.

Would you leave the ACC if FSU left ? No, what if FSU and Clemson left ? No, What if FSU,Clemson, and UNC left ? What if......., if........ , if you were the only school left in the ACC and everybody bolted including Pitt and Syr, would you be happy with that and consider changing conferences ? Well,.....Yeah, under those circumstances we would have to explore other options.

HEADLINE : VT actively looking to change conference currently exploring other options according to __________.

The blank is for whoever you can get to voice the opinion you are seeking President of Univ, AD, Coach, Board member, or former athletes. Doesn't matter, you have got a column produced or filled up your 15 minute talk radio spot.

Public statements by ADs re: conference affiliation mean next to nothing. Remember how Weaver swore up & down to anyone who would listen back in 2003 that we loved the Big East and had absolutely no intention of leaving? Weaver and Littlepage are simply saying what they have to say at this point. If FSU and Clemson bolt for the Big 12, VT will be on the phone to the SEC within 5 minutes of the anouncement.
