There is and was nothing improper. The kid was into sports and sports media and sports marketing. Gee so are a lot of people. He grew up here in the Carolinas watching Raycom coverage of ACC Sports. Gee so did a lot of people. The association between RayCom and the ACC goes back before he was born and before Swofford was Commissioner. They have employees like anyother media company. They pay them OK. One of them is Swoffords son. $110,000/year is not a high salary in Charlotte media. The fact that he worked for RayCom was never a secret and is well known to the ADs and the university presidents.
The Consultant hired by the ACC (not Swofford) negotiated a deal with ESPN that left a piece of the pie so that RayCom and the network of stations and the sponsors that have been a part of the ACC from the beginning of ACC TV could continue to be a part of the ACC. This deal was approved by the 12 presidents (not Swoddord) after, I'm certain, their accounting and legal folks looked it over.
Swofford then signed off on it and held a press conference.
What is the improper part?
