Well, we know what we are in now…a BB conference that nobody mentions in the same breath as National Title Contender… a conference that is more interested in BB than football by October and can’t fill up it’s own on campus FB stadiums or it’s FB championship game. But we may not fill up Lane when we play Vandy, so we had better forget the SEC

Gobblers, funny you mention that topic. We were having the same conversation at The Firm during a working lunch about how we can expand Scott Stadium for the Big 10 games. We will need at least 80,000 seats, but really are hesitant to eliminate The Hill and Pergola Plaza. It is essential that The Carl Smith Center appear as if it was actually designed by Mr. Jefferson.

If we removed the current aluminum seats and extended the West side seating arrangement (single deck, no club seats) around the North endzone to the East side that would next about 8,000 extra seats and take us to a little over 74,000. If we filled in the upper deck corners of the South endzone (yes, it can be done) that would take us to 77,500.

SEZ has about 11,500 seats. If you made it as a single deck similar in design to the West end zone, then you would get a little over 14,000 seats.

actually, the question of whether visiting fans travel to regular season game is probably the least relevant issue in any expansion. The numbers are necessarily small based on visiting ticket allocation. What is more important is whether the home fans show up. The SEC has that - no question.

What makes you think the donors are tapped out? Most of the GHC donors I know would give more if the product were better. People live on the margins, and in the calculus of whether you jump a donor level or now, the regular season schedule is critical.
Most of the high level donors do not donate to the point it hurts. They don't dig that far into their discretionary income. You don't get to be that wealthy by risking your long term financial security for football tickets.

Plus, Kentucky got both Miss State and Ole Miss at home, along with Jax State, CMU and Western Kentucky.
