the SEC. UVA is the school that needs to start sweating. Since these moves are football driven, they could be left behind. The SEC certainly doesn't want UVA for their football tradition or fan support. If the BigTen decides to go to 16, they have already looked at Maryland and UNC or Duke would certainly be next on the list. I guess UVA could still head to Conference USA to join ODU. They can still dominate in LAX, women's volleyball, and badminton there.

Slightly wrong, the Big 10 want AAU type schools and successful in football (and other sports). UVA has one of the best multi-sports programs. Big 10 tend to do not want any private schools (other than ND and on the big 10 terms). They are very lukewarm on expansion right now. EXREMELY lukewarm. but they are intrigue with MD, UVA and UNC. VT would love to be in the discussion but are not an AAU member.

sounds lime you wear orange and maroon glasses and do not look at the business of sports and universities. believe or not as much as I dont personally UVA is a nationally highly ranked university that many conferences would like to have.
VT from the president's perspective (and all we fans are just observers when he leads), want VT branding to be with the Big 10 schools. Simply, VT does not want to maintain a stereotype of a small regional university in SWVA, serving the small region of the south. VT is moving up north in northern va. and if you havent been up there you should visit the VT footprint. From a 40-50 millin dollar R&D building in Balston, to the large architecture campus in alexandria and the VT campus off of Metro and Falls Church. THis is where the money and most of the students and graduates are located.

Fortunately, I live a very close to the Ballston area and well aware of the NOVA VT alumni base. This realignment is not base on UVA's prestigious acadmeic resume, it is clearly football driven which is a place the Hoos fall significantly short. UNC is a much bigger brand name nationally than UVA and thus would be the option along with MD for Big 10

I dunno, I just can't picture UNC & Duke being anything but a bitter-enders.......
.........and like it or not, they're both MAJOR franchises in college sports. And I don't see FSU going anywhere.....their franchise value is not what it was (tho' not as down as Miami's). BAD time for such a drastic change. Clemson's value is skyrocketing but very precariously so (tho' their loyal & solid fan base is a help). We're getting there....a known, rock-solid consistent, recognizable long-term performer IN FOOTBALL. If we can turn our roundball guys into consistent tourney fixtures (uh, and not the one with the "IT" in it, please), I think we'll eventually command the same power.
