Did we miss an opportunity to join the SEC due to athletic and academic administrators too near sited to see what was happening in the college athletics world? I'm not certain we had a potential invite from the SEC but it seems that might have been the case. If so I assume our administrators were too far in the past to strike a definitive move to ensure VT dominance in the region re. football.

I recall all things stopping in Richmond when the ACC basketball tournament commenced. I was in banking and TV's in one of Richmond's largest banks were tuned in to the ACC tournament every March. Customers expected to come into the bank and see what was happening with the tournament games. Basketball ruled! Football was something to be tolerated until BB stared again.

My how times have changed! Football rules and we had better hope we land in a strong FB conference or we are DEAD! No one in my area of the state cares that much about the ACC tournament any longer. We are football driven. That is what pays the bills. If this works out badly for us we can blame athletic administrators too far in the past to see what the future holds.

In that case I'm OK with taking the UVA approach and looking at the total academic picture and not just athletics. I do like both so I hope we land on our feet but that may not be possible with our reactive administrators. I hope I'm misinformed and incorrect as I like both academics and athletics but it is looking like we missed an opportunity to be proactive in all of this and not the bridesmaid watching the grand wedding of football realignment!
