if they maintained a ranking system, it could be 4 highest ranked conf champions.

someone on another board brought up a point (i'll let you decide if a good one)...could bcs truly eliminate majority of eastern seaboard from NCAA playoff? would other forces intervene?

The force that intervenes would be a gradual loss in interest in college football and lower ratings. That said, there isnt much interest anyhow north of Blacksburg, except PA which is covered by B10.

I think it only takes one; gov and/or congressmen from VA to challenge the whole thing to bring more attention and noise than is wanted

There are several suggestions out there, none that suggest the 4 champions from the big 4 conferences. No one is suggesting excluding teams not in those four conferences.

ZERO impact on enrollment and academics at VT -- none

That would be a pro going to the SEC because you could see more kids applying at least for the next few years with the excitement that a new conference like the SEC would add. That being said, we should all know by the end of of July where everyone stands. If it doesn't happen by the end of July then it's probably not going to happen in my opinion. Thanks for the scoop.

4 won't work unless you can convince B10 to pick up 4 more teams

And B12 with 6 more. Sec 2 more. P10 4 more. And even then, I'm probably leaving some people out as 16tms barely covers the ACC.

Source? I'd say there's a huge impact. In the four years I was at Tech (90-94) I don't remember much construction. In the time since I've left, it's an entirely different campus.

What changed in the mid 90's? Hmmm.

What changed in the mid-90's? I'll tell you. VT made a HUGE committment to become a leading research university. It required improvements across the board in facilities to attract the best faculty and stsudents. Research funding (which is a major source of revenue for VT) has skyrocketed; the number and caliber of grad students has skyrocketed; NSF recognition -- major growth. VT is now considered a major rsearch university, something completly unheard of 15+ years ago.

There is alot more to your school than football; a lot more.

Got any numbers to back up that that's the reasoning and ZERO of it was the football program becoming a national brand?
