I'm not entirely sure Garland couldn't... Smith was given free license to jack up as many shots as he wanted whenever he wanted, wherever he wanted. He was very inefficient. 33% from the 3-point line and 38% from the field is not helpful to any team, even if he did shoot his free throws well. He won't get nearly as many shots for VT. Granted, Jarell Eddie made huge strides in his 3-point shooting efficiency between his freshman and sophomore years... hopefully Smith can do likewise.
