Rankings by revenues alone is very misleading. What needs to be done is 2 fold;
1. Rank each BCS school by Total Revenue - Total Expenses. This should give us a starting point for discussion.
2. Then, deduct that number by the total subsidy (aka, student fees) charged and guilty of padding each school's revenue figures. Rank based on profitabilty in order to determine just how healthy each institution is.
Only then are you going to be able to truly understand the impact of the expenses side of the equation on this supposed "pot of gold". Or is it just fool's gold?
