First I'll say that I do not believe any teams are leaving the ACC for the B12. Now on to the speculation.
If the ACC lost 2-4 teams to the B12 and VT had an offer to join the SEC would Virginia cry foul? Could they play the political game and ask to go along with you? Or would they be happy to see you gone and be willing to stay in a weakened ACC?

The Hoos that complained the loudest about our joining the ACC would be the first to complain if our leaving somehow damaged their brand. That being said, the Hoos that lobbied the hardest to get us in the ACC would also expect us to make sure that UVA was taken care of during any messy conference shake-ups...and the latter group are the folks that are the real decision makers.

You really think that UVa is going to WANT to join the SEC if/when Virginia Tech gets an invite?
No, they want no part of that conference, and why would they. They care way too much about the big picture, and being athletically competitive in all sports while providing a top notch education. To think they would jump at the chance to join a conference where they'd be on an island by themselves academically while lagging far behind in the SEC's cash-cow but dominating other non-rev sports is... well, its not happening. UVa is not going to sacrifice their academic reputation by putting it in the same league as the SEC.
If the invite comes to VT, they'll pat us on the back and wish us happy trails while celebrating they finally got us out of their conference. They have resented the fact that we're even in the ACC ever since the day we got the invite. If the ACC were to dissolve, they'll be the first ones knocking at the door of the Big Ten, and I don't see how they wouldn't be invited. They're in a much better spot now than we were in 2004, and they don't need us to issue a lifeline the way we needed them.
