If true, this could be really disastrous.

With 83 on this, and its not disastrous on any level. First the rumor the ACC is being left out of anything is a joke in regards to the new BCS formula. No one is being included unless you are a top 4. If you run the table in the ACC you would be in. Secondly the $20 mil buy out is not correct. Thirdly if it happens and our admin sees it as a watershed moment for the ACC we would join the SEC.

I agree. Right now the ACC is the picture of stability and the Big XII is rickety at best. I have a hard time seeing Clemson and and FSU jumping ship when it is widely accepted that the ACC's television contract will increase in value substantially upon renegotiation due to the addition of Syracuse and Pittsburgh.
Finally, I also agree that, should Clemson and FSU jump ship, the Virginia Tech administration would hit the SEC button on speed dial and shout, "GET US OUT OF HERE!" The SEC would take us and our television footprint in a heartbeat. At that point even North Carolina might call up the SEC.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*. *.*.*.*.*.*

The main 'insider' regarding Clemson/FSU to the B12 on the WVU boards was exposed as a fraud. The WVU fans have been the ones keeping these rumors circulating for so long.

Because we have nothing in common with the Big XII members. Not academically. Not geographically. Not athletically. It'd be us and WVU against the world in that league.
We are now, and have always been, a perfect fit in the ACC. It is truly where we belong. But if the ACC should fall apart, we would certainly seek to keep some semblance of regional association by going with the SEC. Texas and Oklahoma at Lane may sound good, but truthfully, we would much rather play Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia on a regular basis.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*. *.*.*.*.*.*

you're in a relationship, either quit it and look elsewhere or accept where you are. The instability in conferences is because members schools are always looking for a better deal. Ya know what, sometime the gal you're with is the best deal no matter what line of crap that hot blonde with huge fake boobs from Austin tells you.
SEC doesn't buy VT anything more than what we already have.
B12 buys VT a lot less than what we already have.
Neither CU or FSU should be any different from VT.

I highly doubt this will happen, HOWEVER...
The thing that frightens me the most is that Virginia Tech, I feel, has burned its ace in the hole. Our ace is that if the ACC ever did fall apart Virginia Tech would easily be able to join the SEC; however, I genuinely believe the Virginia Tech administration would still turn down an SEC bid in the event of ACC football collapsing. I think our administration has burned--or will burn--our ace.
But this move really makes no sense for FSU and Clemson to leave one of the most stable conferences in athletic history for the [crap] show that is the Big XII. The Big XII just lost Colorado, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Missouri--they lost these big players for a reason. And they added WVU--a team rejected by the ACC and SEC--out of desperation because they were about to get hammered on their TV contract. As long as the University of Texas is in the Big XII there will be massive instability.
However, FSU's finances are so putrid that it may make sense for them to jump ship for a much larger payout. However, they could just fire their incompetent administration and maybe they'd be running in the black again...
