Is this the beginning of the inevitable break up of the BigEast? seems the school Presidents were not happy with what he reported back from the BCS meetings and have decided to go in another direction. is that direction 2 new leagues? does this have something to do with the recent Notre Dame rumblings?

I guess we'll find out more about the Big East's future in 2 weeks when they have their spring meetings. I find it interesting that the BE school presidents didn't approve an increase in exit fees. Looks like UConn, Rutgers, Louisville, USF, and Cincinnati have plans to leave the BE whenever the next opportunity arises.

Probably has more to do with no more AQ status providing a guarenteed BCS payday. At this point, only the Big East needed it. It may also mean that the western strategy may fall apart, as no AQ means there is no financial reason for SDSu/Boise/SMU/Houston to join a majority northeastern conference. Those teams could stay in CUSA or MW, keep travel costs relatively even, and play against a similar level of competition.
I'm not sure who gets what NCAA BBall tourney credits with all the BE comings and goings. Will points accrued by SYR/PITT/WVA stay with the BE? IF there is a split, who gets the points? ND, GTown and maybe Marquette are the only non-football schools to have much BBall tourney success in the last 10 years. Most BE tourney credits are from SYR/LVille/UConn/WVU/PITT/Cinncy - all the football schools.BCS level college football is a resource war, not a morality play.

i would guess the side with the most, longest tenured members would get to keep the units and the name, and it would be up to the other side to fight it in court.
the non-FBS side would have G'Town, Providence, Seton Hall, St Johns, and Villanova with 164 years of membership combined.
the FBS side would have UConn with 33 years and Rutgers with 22 years and not much else to stand on, so i think the units will stay with the bball league."This no more resembles that than something unlike something else resembles that." - Loosely quoting PHNC

Can you imagine the league we could have had if Syracuse hadn't busted the BABE back in the day?
Virginia Tech, Miami, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple become an all-sports league in 1995 and they expand in 2003 to get a championship game by adding Connecticut, Louisville and two of Cincinnati, South Florida, and East Carolina. The TV deal that league would have negotiated, with Miami, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia as the flagships (all 3 were POWERHOUSES in the early 2000s) would have been quite impressive. That league would have been envied in Greensboro. Notre Dame would be eying that league for membership right now with the pending playoff. If Clemson and FSU were to leave the ACC, the BABE could probably snag Maryland to join Notre Dame as the 13th and 14th members.
Don't get me wrong... I'm absolutely THRILLED that we finally got the ACC membership we wanted for so long. But sometimes one just can't help but wonder about the what-ifs.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*. *.*.*.*.*.*

Always interesting to speculate about roads not taken. Imagine if the eastern schools had gotten their scat together in the mid 1980s...PSU, BC, Pitt, WVU, cuse all had strong programs then. Add Rutgers and Temple for a 7 team conference that's perfectly poised to move south later on and add a bunch of indy programs.
