Part of it is the idiotic way they do the lottery. I'm a current junior, and I didn't have season tickets my freshmen year. Through the lottery, I was able to maybe go to half the games, even though there were empty seats for all of the games. The way JW runs the stand-by line is a joke too, nobody wants to throw away the time for a "potential" ticket. I now fork over the cash for the student tickets and go to every game.
There are other issues coming from a student is the cheerleaders do nothing for spirit, the pep band is thrown in a corner (I think were the only school in the ACC that doesn't have their band in the front) and can't lead the student section like the MV's do for football. The structure to support fan support and excitement is not there, and hopefully JJ will make some changes.
Thought your point about the pep band not being able to lead the student section is excellent. Not sure what they do at other schools, but the closer they are to the action, the better IMO.
