I wouldn't characterize it as "Weaver's Choice" .... he had no other option. Coaches that wanted the job were either not acceptable or had strings attached that were difficult. Program HAD to have a coach ASAP. Without interviewing high school coaches, he had no other options. If a good manager knew in advance (and it is said that Weaver did know) of a firing, he should have already had HIS choice in his pocket. Weaver is just damn lucky that Johnson agreed to come back.
So we know for a fact that Weaver DIDN'T have JJ in mind all along, and had already spoken to him?!?! I expect even JJ wouldn't want it to appear that Greenberg was fired so HE could be hired......Seems to me, JJ was the plan all along....and, I think, a GOOD one!
