I found this on TechHoops.com. Don't think they'd mind me linking it over here.

So...basically every other HC was experienced when they took their jobs. What value is there in differentiating between BCS and non BCS? Like Donahues 10 years want valuable? I expected an article that made me feel better, this just highlights JJs inexperience even more so.

Yeah, according to that, John Calipari had zero experience until two years ago. Rick Majerus still doesn't have any experience.

Whatever. I suspect you'd go out of your way to feel miserable no matter what.

    Not exactly a quality rebuttal.

Agree. This article made me feel worse, not better.

Didn't get it either, 11 yrs. avg. experience as a HC versus 0. Our AD just saved 300k, way to go!!

This was a 'just the facts' article. Wasn't meant to instill confidence or raise fears.
Second, as I said in the article, I think the 'BCS experience' is an indicator of early recruiting success, at least on a small sample. Guys like Brownell and Donahue have struggled to attract 4 and 5 star kids to date. No doubt they are going after big name guys for the first times in their career, and are having growing pains with that. Will that happen to JJ? We'll see - it is a bit different with him in that he's been at an ACC school for the last 5 years, whereas Brownell and Donahue were coming from 2nd and even 3rd tier schools. So you can't necessarily form a correlation there either. All just food for thought.

Thanks niemo, the facts are facts. We have the most inexperienced HC in the ACC. I'm still not sold on the value of differentiating between BCS and non-BCS in hoops. It's as much system for a guy like Donahue with regards to recruiting 4/5*'s than it is experience.

My comment about not feeling any better is that it was posted by Stud. It's his MO to post things that support the athletic department. Your article, in my opinion, did just the opposite.

Very interesting and very enlightening, indeed! I must say from experience (I have been posting with you since the "screaming Lizard" but my moniker has changed many times) that those who are negative about whatever will not have their attitudes adjusted by any real data or facts. They wallow in their negativism and seemingly love that gutter they live in. But I'm being very judgmental; they may be right in the end and JJ will be nothing more than a bitter disappointment. I do recall many of the same type of posts about a young coach named Beamer after an unmentioned disastrous season who proved them all wrong in the end. Lets hope JJ has that same type of "run"! I wish him nothing but the best and I hope all on these boards do the same.
