I wish nothing but the best for Johnson and the VT basketball team. Maybe JJ will turn out to be the next Shaka. However, this whole basketball process has been a disaster because of Jim Weaver. Did he even have conversations with Seth along the way and over the years? I suspect Seth did not just become the person he is today overnight. His personality likely has been that way for years. Did JW ever talk with him or manage him in a way that might let Seth know that he was not especially well liked and that it was detrimental to his career? It does not just hit you while standing in front of 180 coaches that Seth is not a family atmospher guy and that he has to be fired. JW should have done this much sooner, and if he did, we would be kn much better shape. All the best to JJ. We all wish you much success and hope your prove Weaver correct on this hire.
How many coaches did Weaver talk with that just said Thank God I did not pursue that job with the compensation package that he got JJ for and that we are basing our compensation on what Clemson pays their assistants. This fact alone can come back to haunt us in the future. JW was not any more professional in this presser than he was last week. I appreciate all he has done for VT and sympathize with his health, but it is time for Steger and the BOV to begin the process for his retirement over the next 6 months or so, and certainly by year end. It is time to move on with a new AD.
VT deserves better than what the AD department is delivering. Be gracious to JW but it is time to move on.
