I haven't been here in a while....but somebodies got some 'splainin to do. We were assured throughout this past season (and before) by the rabble calling for Seth's head....that anybody would be better than SG....and that there would be quality head coaches lining up to take the Tech job because, after all, we are an ACC program.
Now I come on here and find out the best we may get is the assistant coach of the guy we just fired?
What can we learn from this?

I can't believe that. It would be a great job if we were willing to pay appropriately. We'll likely never have a storied program like Kentucky, Kansas or North Carolina, or the advantage of being bball, but we're in the top league (after expansion), and we have great facilities. All that is left is to pay a respectable amount. There are 300 bball programs in Division I, I see no reason why this job couldn't be one of the best 20-30 if we paid well enough.
Do you think Murray State is a better freaking job (even at the same pay)? Why can't we attract someone like Steve Prohm?Last edited by Telionis; Sun Apr 29 2012 at 08:12 PM.

Think about it, then name why we'd be a better hire than half the other ACC teams. Forget about UNC & Duke, just think about the other ones. What do we have to offer that betters them? What do we have to offer that betters VCU, or Richmond?

You are not being realistic at all. This is no different than a real world business. Some are located in better cities that make it easier to attract better employees, more chances to grow, more potential clients, etc. VT is a great school, it's a great place to go to college (for some people), and has lots of nice people. But that doesn't automatically make it great in everything. The market has repeatedly and loudly proclaimed that VT is not an ideal basketball place. That doesn't mean we are the worst or that we can't be good, it just means we are at a disadvantage. That is a fact and denial doesn't make it any different.

Yes, and every time they did they were berated by many 'regulars' on here for doing so, because the 'regulars' refuse to accept the truth. Now we're seeing it play out. I can't recall any BCS position that started out by chasing after assistant coaches and then moving down from there. Maybe Indiana football, or some other equally pathetic hire, but that's where we started - chasing after hiring some assistant coaches, or having a 'fall back' of offering the job to an assistant who just left us and who has zero HC experience.
Think about it rationally, folks. That is where we STARTED, just guess where we'll eventually settle.

Yeah, that must be why so many head coaches are eager to interview for the job, because the 'regulars' knew better than the industry experts, and the sentimental 'regulars' were right about this being such a peach of a job.

I think most people that were defending SG realized that the success we were having may have had something to do with Greenberg working his ass off to recruit kids to this school....but we were assured that it had nothing to do with him and that we could do so much better.
