Sometimes obscure and unheard of means a bold choice, a willingness to take a risk...Sometimes it simply means a blank slate....It all depends on the individual..I know about 4-5 assistant names that I have been around and gotten to know and talk a lot of basketball with to gauge their philosphy, thoughts, etc that I would be very very happy with as Virginia Tech. Every one of them would fall into the "unheard of, obscure" name category...And they would be bold, terrific choices in my opinion...And equally, there are several "name" coaches that people might get excited about at Tech if named Head Coach that I feel would be train wrecks because they dont understand Virginia Tech or whose reputations exceed their actual real time production...Its not always just about the sexiness or the name recognition or the splash...Substance, knowledge of where you are working and a laser-like understanding of how you need to do things at a particular school to achieve the greatest amount of success are far, far more important ingredients in a coaching hire, especially at Virginia Tech...In my opinion....
