this makes sense. The "everybody else" list consists of the likely candidates the sportswriters are putting out, guys who would have a good reason to consider tech a definite step up for one reason or another. Steve Prohm, Greg Marshall, all assistant coaches...etc. The realistic choices. But, who goes on the dream list? I would think Weaver would have a group that he knows are likely to say no but he goes after anyway. I'm not talking Coach K, Roy, Calipari. That is too far fetched. Guys who would be more of a lateral move, just to see if he can find somebody maybe interested negotiating. Any thoughts from anyone? I'm think Shaka, yes, but maybe plenty of other guys like Anthony Grant? Alabama doesn't have much on VT basketball, he just makes a small fortune. Brey, the ND coach? ND is another football school, and I've heard he makes very little. Other major conference coachs who aren't exactly the cream of the crop, but unlikely to leave for VT? If you were AD, who would you call first? I know it wouldn't be an assistant somewhere.

Do you think Weaver has two lists? Dream list and the "everybody else" list? To me

VT is not a step up for Gregg Marshall, folks need to start realizing that. The guy has 'officially' turned down Nebraska, NC State, and some other BCS school I can't remember, just in the last three years. He makes more money at Wichita State already. He has a private jet. He has more perks than Frank Beamer, already. he has big money donors keeping him happy. He is NOT coming to VT. He may pretend to listen so he can get an extra $100K a year or whatever, but he is NOT coming.
Seriously, I can't emphasize enough - forget Gregg Marshall. Cave Spring high School means nothing. Forget Gregg Marshall.
VT is not getting a 'name' coach. We need to focus on young coaches, or good assistants.

Besides, from what's been said of his personality, I'm not sure we'd want him even if we could get him. It doesn't make sense to me to trade one abusive jerk for another.

That's the point everyone ignores. Gregg Marshall every day is worse than Seth Greenberg on a bad day. It doesn't matter if he's from Cave Spring, he would not fit the hallowed 'family atmosphere'...

I live in Wichita and have followed their basketball program. crooked road is correct that Marshall has a ton of perks and of course at WSU the basketball program is the main game in town - so it will take a lot to pry him out of here. From what I have seen of Marshall his behavior is much more desirable than Seth's trantrums and fits that made this alum cringe. I love the job he did for us, but his actions did not always align with what I want to see from a very public rep of VT.

Jim Weaver will make a trip to Annapolis, MD and finally get his man, Ed DeChellis since Penn State grabbed him before he could in 2003. TIC

I had never heard a bad word about him until yesterday. He was always assumed the dream candidate for VT. I don't know when he all of the sudden became an unbearable jerk. He has been heavily courted by a number of big jobs to be so bad. I would think VT would be incredibly lucky to snag him.
